We administer 10 scholarships named for individual persons, 2 for the Cloverdale Lions Club, 2 for the Millgrove United Methodist Church, 3 for the Cloverdale FFA Alumni Association, and at  least 8 awards given by the our local Dollars for Scholars Chapter.  The scholarships range in value from a minimum of $500 up to $5,000.  Unless stipulated otherwise, each scholarship is awarded to one person each year.  Our funds are maintained in two locations: First National Bank of Cloverdale and in endowments with the Putnam County Community Foundation.

Renewable scholarships:

Chad Tucker Memorial Award:  Chad, a CHS grad, was a member of the 1983 Indiana All-Star Basketball Team.  He went on to set several records while a member of the Butler University Basketball Team.  He played professional basketball overseas for several years.  He has been inducted into the Butler University Athletic Hall of Fame.  In March, 2013, Chad was inducted into the Indiana High School Basketball  Hall of Fame.  This scholarship is endowed by the Tucker Family in his memory and will be awarded to a senior who has participated in athletics for all 4 years of high school.  This scholarship is endowed with the Putnam County Community Foundation.  Amount:  $1,250 x 4 years = $5,000.

Terry & Linda Hoffa Rose-Hulman Scholarship: Terry & Linda Hoffa are both CHS grads. Terry also graduated from Rose-Hulman. They have created this scholarship for any CHS senior planning to attend Rose-Hulman Institute of Technolgy. Amount: $1,000 x 4 years = $4,000.

CC Dollars for Scholars Matching Partner Award:  This award is presented to students planning to attend one of the following schools: Franklin College, Holy Cross College, Huntington University, Indiana Institute of Technology, IUPUI, Indiana Wesleyan University, Manchester College, Oakland City University, Taylor University, University of Indianapolis, University of St. Francis, or Vincennes University.  Each of these schools shall match this award, dollar for dollar, without reducing any other scholarships or loans from other sources.  Amount:  $500 x 4 years = $2,000 + Same amount from matching school = $4,000 total.

CC Dollars for Scholars Super Scholar AwardThis scholarship was established by the CC Dollars for Scholars board of directors in 2012-2013 for outstanding scholars in the CHS senior class.  Recipients must be receiving an Academic Honors Diploma.  Amount:  $750 x 4 years = $3,000.

Frank Cummings Award: Frank was a mechanic and owned/operated Frank's Marathon on the corner of Market and Main Streets for many years.  His family wants to recognize a graduating CHS senior who is interested in the trades and/or technology.  The recipient may attend either a 2-year or a 4-year school or training institution.  Amount: $1,000 x 2 years = $2,000.

CC Dollars for Scholars Community College Award:  This scholarship was created by the CC Dollars for Scholars board of directors in the 2012-2013 school year.  It is to be awarded to CHS seniors planning to attend a 2-year college or training program.  Amount: $500 x 2 years = $1,000.


One-time Scholarships:

CC Dollars for Scholars Founders Award The CC Dollars for Scholars board of directors established award in the 2011-2012 school year to honor its founders: Mr. Bob Steele, Mr. Steve Wittnauer, Mr. Al Tucker, Dr. Keith Ernst, and Mrs. Linda Mann.  It is to be awarded to an outstanding CHS student who exhibits high standards of scholarship, leadership, citizenship, and service.  Amount: $1,000.

CC Dollars for Scholars Clover Award:  CC Dollars for Scholars has awarded Clover Awards to deserving CHS Seniors since 1994.  In the past, these awards have ranged from $250 to $750 depending upon available funds and the number of applicants.  The scholarship committee reserves the right to change the amount awarded and/or number of recipients each year.  These scholarships are funded by an endowment with the Putnam County Community Foundation.  Amount for 2016-17: $750 (4 recipients).

Clorissa Jo Taylor Memorial: Clorissa was a student at CHS.  This scholarship is awarded to an active female athlete in her memory by family and friends.  Amount: $500.

Lillian M. Whitaker Award: Lillian and her husband Charles owned and operated the Whitaker Funeral Home.  Educating their 3 children was a priority for them.  She was a member and secretary of the Board of Trustees for the Cloverdale Community School Corporation for 26.5 years dating from the time of the reorganization of schools in Indiana which created the current corporation of Cloverdale Township and the Owen County Townships of Jackson, Jennings, and Taylor.  This scholarship is endowed with the Putnam County Community Foundation.  Amount:  $750.

Charles D. Whitaker Award: Charles and his wife Lillian established the Whitaker Funeral Home in 1947.  As a couple, they deeply valued education and vowed to provide college educations to each of their children.  Charles served in the medical corps in the US Navy Reserve during WWII.  He served on the Putnam County Hospital Board of Trustees for 30 years.  This scholarship is endowed with the Putnam County Community Foundation.  Award: $750.

Jerry L. Sinclair Scholarship:  Jerry was a 1967 graduate of CHS.  He attended Purdue University and majored in animal husbandry.  He returned to his family farm and raised Duroc hogs.  His family awards this scholarship to a student who is an active 4-H club member. Preference is given to students who show livestock.  This scholarship is endowed with the Putnam County Community Foundation.  Amount: $500.

Everett F. & Eva H. Bell Memorial:  Mr. & Mrs. Bell were educators in public schools in Indiana.  They retired near their childhood homes in the Cunot area.  Students who are interested in becoming educators are given preference for this award.  Amount: $500.

Vincent L. Faulkner Memorial:  Vince was a teacher, coach, and administrator during his career at Cloverdale High School.  He was tragically killed in an automobile accident.  This scholarship is award to a CHS senior who displays high qualities of scholarship, leadership, and citizenship.  This scholarship is endowed with the Putnam County Community Foundation.  Amount: $500.

Cloverdale Lions Club Scholarship: Members of the Cloverdale Lions Clun award this scholarship to CHS Seniors who are active in community and school service. Amount: $500 (2 recipients).

Millgrove United Methodist Church Scholarship: In February, 2014, the Millgrove UMC donated $25,000 to create an endowment with the Putnam County Community Foundation to be administered by the Cloverdale Community Dollars for Scholars.  This endowment ensures that two $500 scholarships will be awarded annually in perpetuity.  Preference will be given to students attending Millgrove UMC and/or live in Taylor, Jackson, or Jennings Townships in Owen County.  Amount: $500 (2 recipients).

Cloverdale FFA Alumni Association Scholarship: In the spring of 2016, the Cloverdale FFA Alumni Association creaed and endowment with the Putnam COunty Foundation to be administered by the Cloverdale Community Dollars for Scholars. Active membership in the Cloverdale High School FFA is required.  Amount: $500 (3 recipients)
